  • 1933 – Newsweek magazine is first published.
  • 1964 – Gabonese president Léon M’ba is toppled by a coup and his rival, Jean-Hilaire Aubame, is installed in his place.
  • 2008 – Kosovo declares independence as the Republic of Kosovo.
  • 2011 – Libyan protests begin. In Bahrain, security forces launched a deadly pre-dawn raid on protesters in Pearl Roundabout in Manama, the day is locally known as Bloody Thursday.
  • 2015 – 18 people are killed and 78 injured in a stampede at a Mardi Gras parade in Haiti.

  • 1963 – Michael Jordan, American basketball player and actor. Former high-flying Chicago Bulls shooting guard known as “Air Jordan.” He is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all-time. He was a 6-time NBA champion, 6-time NBA Finals MVP, and 5-time NBA MVP.

  • 2007 – Mike Awesome, American wrestler (b. 1965) Michael Lee “Mike” Alfonso was an American professional wrestler. He was best known for his appearances with the American professional wrestling promotions Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation under the ring name Mike Awesome.
