The operatives of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have intercepted three trucks conveying over 100,000 litres of illegally refined diesel.
Six persons were also arrested in connection with the matter.
The suspects are Johnbull Agbonze, Alade Aderopo, Moses Akinnehin, Komiyo Jeje, Sadiq Muyili, and Babatunde Olalekan.
This was contained in a statement issued by the state Commandant of the corps, Eweka Edenabu, in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday.
The commander said the suspects were arrested in different parts of the state in connection with the illegal products.
According to the statement, Johnbull and Aderopo were apprehended with a truck marked, BEN 643 XC, while conveying 45,000 litres of diesel from Delta State to Ondo State.
Eweka explained further that men of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Igbokoda, arrested Moses and Komiyo who were conveying 34 drums of adulterated diesel.
He stated that the offence was punishable under the Miscellaneous Offences Act, CAP M17, Section 1(17) (a) and (b), Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said, “The investigation will be very thorough and detailed after which the suspects would be charged to court and appropriately prosecuted under the extant laws.
“The command will continue to work relentlessly in the fight against vandalism, oil bunkering, and illegal dealings in petroleum products as well as collaborating with other sister agencies in the fight against all form of criminalities in Ondo State.”
