The stamford Bridge was sent into a frenzy as home side, Chelsea inflicted a shock first defeat of the season on Man City

Goals from rare scorer, N’Golo Kante and defender David Luiz sealed a 2-0 win for the home side.

Strikers were conspicuous by their absence, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and City’s Raheem Sterling deployed in the ‘false nine’ position, and the hosts absorbed repeated pressure from Pep Guardiola’s men before earning a 2-0 win in a compelling contest

City had been unbeaten in 21 games, since April’s defeat in the Manchester derby, and now sit a point behind Liverpool. Chelsea are third, eight points behind Liverpool.

Chelsea’s defeat on champions Manchester City  at Stamford Bridge, leaves Liverpool top of the table after earlier winning 4-0 at Bournemouth.

The Reds had kept the pressure up with an impressive display at the Vitality Stadium in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, with Mohamed Salah scoring a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Lucas Torreira scored with a spectacular scissor-kick as Arsenal claimed an unconvincing 1-0 home win over Huddersfield to remain in the top four.

Tottenham Hotspur moved back into third place in the Premier League after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. The goals game from Son Heung-min’s stunner and Dele Alli’s 50th goal for Tottenham.
