The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Dr. Victor Oye, has expressed worry over the recent attacks on him and the party by Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, the wife of the late Biafra warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Speaking with journalists on Friday in Awka, Oye said Bianca had not been fair to him or the party in spite of the support and privileges she enjoyed during primaries.
The APGA national chairman noted that, though Bianca joined the Anambra South Senatorial contest for APGA ticket a bit late, she got a lot of assistance from the party to enable her clinch the nomination, and wondered why she lost.
“I deserve an apology for the misplaced and unwarranted attacks on me by the wife of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu. That she is a widow does not confer on her a special status. It is not in APGA constitution that once you are a widow, we give you a ticket. I don’t think it is in the constitution of any party in Nigeria that once you are a widow, you get an automatic ticket.”
Dr. Oye observed that Bianca’s media swipe on APGA did not befit her status as the mother of the party, but smacked more of anti-party activity.
He said the report available to the party showed that primary election for Anambra South Senatorial District ticket which Bianca participated in held and ended well with a clear winner announced to the public.
Meanwhile, Bianca, in Owerri, on Friday, called for Oye’s immediate resignation.
She made the call at the 2018 edition of the Ojukwu annual lecture, organized by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra/Biafra Independent Movement.
Bianca alleged that there were irregularities in the party’s primary election for Anambra South senatorial district.
She expressed regrets that although all APGA aspirants had the late Ojukwu’s photographs on their vests and posters during the electioneering period, what was due to his (Ojukwu’s) family was diverted by the party’s leaders.
However, In another development, the MASSOB/BIM leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, said Igbo should not vote for APGA in the 2019 elections.
“Don’t vote for APGA in 2019. APGA is a disappointment to Ojukwu and Ndigbo at large,” he said.
