Since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999, there have been several calls on the youths to actively participate in politics. In recent times though, the campaigns seem to be yielding some results as many youth have contested in various positions and most recently a lot of youthful celebrities have joined in the act.
In the 2019 elections as well, some celebrities will be contesting to get into various positions. Here is a look at the 5 celebrity candidates in the coming elections;
Desmond is a seasoned actor with over 200 film appearances as well as an impressive list of soap operas ad TV series to his name. In 2015, he contested and won election into the Lagos State House of Assembly for the Surulere constituency with the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is seeking re-election into the post.
The singer, producer and actor who is opularly known as Banky W, was born in the United States and moved back to Nigeria with his family when he was five years old. He schooled in Lagos for his primary and secondary education and later returned to further his tertiary education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York on a scholarship. He wrote the first theme song of Etisalat Nigeria titled “0809ja for life”.[
On November 11, 2018, Banky W declared his intention to run for the Lagos’ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, representing on the platform of Modern Democratic Party, which was formed in 2017.[
The popular Nollywood actor who is one-time president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), is contesting for the Federal House of Representatives seat in Okigwe South Constituency, Imo state under Young Progressive Party (YPP)
The 51-year-old actor declared his intention on his social media accounts in November, 2018 and has also shared pictures from his grassroot campaigns.
“Campaign up, YPP, youth and masses friendly party. Let’s go fellow masses, YPP is changing the grassroots narrative. Youths, it’s our time,” he wrote.
“Real leaders should step out to the centre stage. Let’s sample the stuff u are made of. Not merely sharing money with no content.”
Anayo Modestus Onyekwere
The actor popularly known in the film industry as Kanayo O. Kanayo is a native of Mbaise, Imo State. In 2006, he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
He is currently a United Nations ambassador and bears the title of MFR.

He made this known in an announcement he made via his Instagram handle.

“History has been made today as I declared my intention to run for the House of Representatives, Ahiazu/ Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency, Imo State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
“I owe you this information as I enlist your prayers and support. #OverAndOut”.
